Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is the single biggest upgrade you can make to your account security. Even if someone steals your password, they can’t sign in without your phone. Setup takes about five minutes.
Set it up
- On your phone, install Microsoft Authenticator from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android). It’s free and made by Microsoft – avoid lookalike apps.
- On your computer, go to aka.ms/mfasetup and sign in with your work email and password.
- Choose Add sign-in method, then Authenticator app.
- In the phone app, tap the +, choose Work or school account, then Scan a QR code and point the camera at the code on your screen.
- Approve the test notification that appears on your phone. Done.
Two things people forget
- Add a backup method. On the same page, add your mobile number as a second method. If you lose or replace your phone, this is your way back in.
- Getting a new phone? Set up Authenticator on the new phone before you wipe the old one, or raise a ticket first and we’ll reset MFA for you. Doing it after the wipe means a lockout.
If you’re locked out already, raise a ticket from another device or message us on WhatsApp and we’ll verify you and reset it.
