The brief
The client walked into the workshop with a Lenovo IdeaPad in two pieces — the front right hinge had snapped clean off, the front bezel was in two halves, and the mounting screws had sheared inside the chassis. Three other shops had quoted £400+ for a replacement screen assembly and recommended the client just buy a new laptop.
What we did
We sourced a replacement hinge bracket from a parts supplier in Sheffield, drilled out the sheared mounting screws, repaired the bezel with a structural epoxy normally used for printer chassis, and reseated the LCD ribbon. Total parts cost: £42.
The outcome
Laptop returned to the client three working days later. Total bill: £95 inc. parts and labour. Client uses it daily and reported back six months later — still going.
